Not so fine Shopping Experience at Imtiaz Super Market
Pic Taken from here.
Grocery shopping in Pakistan seems like a family bonding therapy, the more the people that accompany you, the merrier. Be it Saima Phuppi or Parosan Sadia: everyone is welcomed in your endeavor. However, little does the host realize how hectic it gets when everyone shares the mutual idea of tagging every alive relative along.
Imtiaz Super Store is no different to others in this respect. With half the population of Karachi packed between the boundaries of four walls, it isn’t surprising to note how the buyers are left panting for oxygen. It is quite a struggle to enter the building itself since people are found mercilessly pushing and groping the other; making it resembles an apocalyptic war. Being a survivor of this phase myself, I entered the building only to be knocked out of air. It wasn’t because of the congestion, no, looking around, I realized it was just a kid with a trolley who deemed pushing me out of his way to fit.
As people accompany their relatives/friends for the littlest of tasks, the number of people visiting Imtiaz Super Store for either groceries or miscellaneous items has spiked up to an alarming rate. With only a limited number of trolleys available, everyone tries their best to acquire it, even if it means sinking down to violence to obtain it. During my last Imtiaz Store Visit Korangi Road Branch I saw people in the parking area begging the shoppers to handover their trolleys to them. When I went up, there were no trolleys at all, I asked one of the employee where the trolleys are he told me to go down and get it, I thought they have made some new place in the basement for the trolleys, but then he explained that I must go down & get it from the people who are coming from the EXIT point and who are done with their shopping. I was shocked at his statement, upon saying that its their duty to keep this thing managed I got a reply that I am not the first one to get a trolley like that. I went inside shouted at them a little asked them to give me complaint form and filled it. I hope I get a reply from them because I have been waiting for a reply from their side since last week.
The management should realize instead of turning their customers against each other and ultimately them, it is suitable for them to stock trolleys according to the quantity of stock present. Furthermore, they should train their employees to be friendlier with their customers. I was met with the rude response from their employee when asked to assist me finding a vacant trolley. I am not saying that all are employees are rude but some of them needs a little training. Limited parking spaces is also a huge issue associated with Imtiaz, stuck in traffic listening to the honking of cars isn’t an ideal way for me to spend my time. To avoid the problems of congestion, the management of Imtiaz Super Market shouldn’t let its customers enter the building until a certain number of them leave.
Suffice to say, my shopping experience with Imtiaz wasn’t exactly a ‘fine shopping experience’ they promised to deliver. Nevertheless, it is true to state that Imtiaz does provide a variety of everything that too all under one place. Few touches of customization could lead it to become the biggest and the best retailer in Karachi.
